Camporee 2008
Camporee was awesome at Camp Brinkley in May. We competed against many Patrols from several other Troops in our District. There were several different activities on Saturday and we placed in four of them. We took first in the A-Frame Walk, second in archery, and third in the tarp flip. We were also awarded the best campsite.
Activities this year included the Ultimate Run which is a 1/4 mile race where we stopped at different stations to work on things like knots or answering questions, a physical fitness test with many different activities like push-ups, sit-ups, and 50 yard dash, a two-man log-saw race, and the tarp flip where our whole Patrol had to stand on a tarp without getting off while we flipped it. We also had to correctly coil a few hundred feet of rope as fast as we could. We shot archery and .22 rifles and placed second in archery. Another event was the A-Frame Walk where we had to build a giant a-frame, put a person on it, then walk the frame 100 feet, and bring it back to take apart. There were also first aid and giant clove hitch events which we were unable to make.
The final event that evening was the Saturday Night Live Cook-Off. We made lasagna, garlic bread, gorgonzola pear salad, and a turtle cake, all in dutch-ovens. We also made Italian sodas to go with our Italian theme including a sign at our gate and a mater dei, as well as a table setting with candles. We made great food but didn't clean up in time which was worth many times more points than the food.
We stayed at the Medicine Pipe campsite. A cool thing was that the military was staying at Mystery Dog so we couldn't go there for most of the trip. By the end of the trip I'm sure everyone who came had fun. - AMG
