Canoe Training 2008

Our canoe training at Coulon Park in May was great. We arrived at the Cascade Canoe & Kayak Center at Cedar River Boathouse at around 11am when they opened, and were surprised to find a baby snapping turtle at the edge of the river. One of the Troop leaders brought his own canoe that we practiced getting in and out of before renting four more canoes at the center.

Before we could leave, the personnel at the boathouse informed us that we couldn't go on the Cedar River as we had planned so we paddled out onto Lake Washington. We practiced our strokes in the little marina at Coulon Park and also had a race after we practiced changing positions in the canoe. After a while we paddled back to the dock and the boathouse to pay and leave but on the way we spotted a Great Blue Heron. All in all it was a great trip. - AMG
