Klondike Derby 2008
The Klondike Derby was great just like any year. We arrived at Ensign Ranch on the evening on January 25th. Everyone pitched there tents in the snow and then went into the cabin. We started a fire and got everything ready for the morning. After the evening routine was over, all of the non-wussie Scouts slept outside in the -3.7 degree temperature.
In the morning, a few of us woke up early and got a fire going and had some breakfast of muffins and oatmeal. After breakfast we got our sleds ready and our gear stowed. We left for the derby at around 8:30 or 9am At the derby there were several events. The first aid event showed treating a broken arm the fastest, next was building a fire and cooking eggs in the middle of some toast. After that we did the two man log-saw cut race before going to a figure eight sled-race. We had some lunch of soup and snow and then finished the events with the snowshoe race and the compass course event. About a half an hour after those, there was the great Klondike race. Where the fastest sleds ran across a three foot deep snow field (some of the real men went bear-chested). Troop 282 triumphed yet-again with the Keebler Patrol taking 1st overall, Boxers 15 taking 2nd, and the A-Team Patrol in their debut appearance, taking 7th overall.
We packed up all of our things and then left for the church to put the tents away before returning home from another snowy and cold but awesome!!! Klondike Derby. - AMG
