Troop Cookoff 2009
On April 11, 2009, all of the Patrols in our Troop showed up for our Dutch Oven Cookoff at lower Lincoln Park. Though the competition was fierce, the winner was the Allatuna Patrol with their shepherd's and apple pies. Some other dishes included pizza, venison chili, chocolate filled pastry, lasagna, peach cobbler with ice cream, and apple/pear tart. Our esteemed judges included Webelos Scouts from Packs 793 and 285 along with their parents and a few adults from our Troop. The adults also cooked several dishes including apple dumplings, pineapple upside-down cake, a couple different soups, butternut/apple bake, and Chicken Mirabella with couscous.
It was a nice day but slightly windy. After the cookoff, some Scouts stayed to practice Camporee skills like the A-frame walk, knots, first aid, and discuss the principals of Leave No Trace. Afterwards, everyone hauled all the supplies back to the cars and went home. - JFW
