Camporee 2010

The Aquila and Green River District Camporee (similar to the Klondike Derby, minus the snow) was held this year at Pacific Raceways in Kent, Washington. There were many different activities for Patrols to compete in, and there were many more Scouts than in the past due to the involvement of both Aquila and Green River Districts. The adults in our Troop ran the A-Frame relay, where Scouts build a giant a-frame by lashing logs together with Pioneering skills, put a person on it, then walk the frame 100 feet with four Scouts steadying the a-frame using ropes, and bring it back to take apart. This year, Scouts built chariots and raced them for prizes too. Our Scouts took 2nd place in the A-Frame relay, 3rd in the memory test, and 2nd in the dutch oven desert cook-off which brought home a brand-new 12" dutch oven for the Troop. Our Troop and many others built neat camp gates and we had great sunny weather all weekend. - MHG
