Mount Si 2010

On Sunday, April 18th 2010, two Scouts, three adults, and one dog from the A-Team Patrol left for Mount Si at 8:30am. The drive was a bit less than an hour, and we ended up starting the hike at around 9:40. The weather was beautiful, which meant that every other hiker in Western Washington was on the trail too.

We kept a nice quick pace and enjoyed short but beautiful views on the way. The trail was nice and dry for most of the way up, until we hit the level where there was still snow. There wasn't much snow left, just 1-6 inches of slush in most place. Even then, the trail was easily manageable without gators, or any protection other than good waterproof boots.

The two Scouts hit the top, below the haystack just before noon, and the adults ranged from 12:10, to 12:30. After we had gotten to the top, we ate lunch, and went over to the Haystack. The Haystack is the actual summit of Mount Si, and is a moderately difficult scramble. One of the adults and both of the Scouts made it to the top of the Haystack, and got even better views, and lots of wind. After that, we all headed back down to the parking lot at around 2pm, and arrived back home at 2:45. Definitely a fun hike. I would recommend it as a day hike to anyone. - AMG
