Tieton River 2010
Another really fun rafting trip. It was about a 3 hour drive to Hause Creek Campground, about 22 miles west of Naches, WA. The campground was a typical car camping site, with running water and real bathrooms. We took a quick trip up the road to see the Tieton Dam and Rimrock Lake. We noted that the lake has several islands that would be neat to canoe around and explore.
We had great sunny weather. Some of us slept out under the stars and it was beautiful. The Scouts built a fire and cooked hot dogs on sticks for dinner. Sunday morning, we got up at 6am, made and ate breakfast, stowed our gear, and swept camp to be out of camp 5 minutes early! That made meeting our guides at the take-out site easy and stress-free.
We had a great 15 mile trip down the Tieton River with guides from North Cascades River Expeditions again. The rapids were fun and we had some cool wildlife sightings including a herd of bighorn sheep running up the rocky bank. Lunch was prepared by our guides Jerry and Lori (good stuff!), and the rest of the trip after lunch was pretty tame comparatively. We got cleaned up and on the road by about 2pm. We stopped at a nice fruit stand in Naches and bought fresh fruit and corn to bring home too. - MHG
